Rocket Killifish AKA Clown Killifish
The Rocket Killifish (Epiplatys annulatus), also known as the Clown Killifish, is a small and vividly colored freshwater fish, popular for its striking appearance and peaceful nature. Native to West Africa, particularly in Guinea and Sierra Leone, this species typically grows to only about 1 to 1.5 inches (2.5 to 3.8 cm), making it ideal for nano tanks.
Rocket Killifish are distinguished by their elongated bodies with bold horizontal stripes in black and yellow, complemented by brightly colored red, blue, or orange tail fins that have a rocket-like pattern, hence their name. Males generally display more intense coloration than females.
These fish thrive in warm water, ideally between 72-78°F (22-26°C), and prefer well-planted aquariums with calm water flow. They are peaceful and do well in community tanks with other small, non-aggressive species.
As micropredators, Rocket Killifish enjoy a diet of small live or frozen foods like daphnia and brine shrimp, though they also accept high-quality micro pellets. Their hardy nature and stunning patterns make them a beautiful and lively addition to any small freshwater aquarium.
